Throughout the past quarter, you have been discussing the process of writing and researching. For this last blog post, I want you to discuss who you believe you are as a writer and researcher: in other words, what's your writerly identity? What's your identity as a researcher? How do these identities connect together?
To do this I want you to have a little fun, so I'm not looking for you to do a traditional 300-500 word response. What I want is you to think about how you could represent the characteristics that define you as a writer/researcher that you have developed and honed this quarter (and those that you came in with).
Some suggestions for ways to create this:
*A job wanted ad or a personal
*A poem
*Through a series of images
*an obit
*a short short (short fiction piece)
*a song
The possibilities with responding are very open. You can respond back to this post OR you can create a new post.
This should be as long as it needs to be to get your point across. I should see elements of you----so I should be able to get a sense of who wrote what without even looking at the author's name.
Due by class time on Wednesday, May 29, 2013.
My final "blog" was in the form of a PowerPoint and was sent to Dr. KT via email.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible that you can upload it to Google Docs, make the link public, and share the link here? I can help you do that if you want.
Delete(To the tune of the fresh prince of Bel-Air)
ReplyDeleteNow this is a story of about how
My writing got flipped turned upside down,
And I’d like to take a minute so don’t worry about the trauma,
And I’ll tell you how I became the princess of a thing called genre.
In Bellevue, Washington born and raised,
Writing with formulas was how I spent most of days,
Structure and worksheets and practice galore
Expression was something I dared not to explore,
Until a couple of my friends started messin’ around,
Started showin’ me how to create a new sound.
With a small bit of help from the best, Dr. T,
Who said, “Writing’s about rhetoric and audience you’ll see!”
I listened to these words and I saw this was true, my
Writing was now “fresh” and I then had a breakthrough!
If anything I could say that this new style was rare,
But I thought nah; forget it, I don’t write like a square!
I pulled open my computer and began to research,
And I yelled to Dr. T “Hey teacher, I can find what I need”
I looked at my work and I was free of all drama,
To sit on my throne as the princess of genre
So basically in this remix of the Fresh Price of Bel-Air I wanted to show that I have changed as a writer and researcher. I have come to realize that my writing style should be different for each piece of writing. This is because I should always write with my intended audience and purpose in mind. This is very similar to how I learned to research as well. I discovered that research can be found in many different places and in order to get the best sources I need to first think about the specific style and focus of my writing. Writing and research has nothing to do with formulas and each piece is unique for that genre.
You're my hero.
DeleteI second Emily's statement. hahaha
DeleteI tip my hat to you. Unique idea and solid final product.
DeleteI wish I could "like" Emily's comment.
DeleteDanielle- That was pure genius. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Can I third Emily's statement? ahhmazing!
DeleteThis is the best thing ever
Deletethis is awesome, please put this in your portfolio
DeleteI chose a poem/photo thing that can't be posted in a reply, so I created a new post!
ReplyDeleteMy post is in the form of a Haiku Poem:
ReplyDeleteResearch is gnar-core,
I research then write my point,
first draft then edit.
Cool.
DeleteWow Paul, this post was very insightful into your identity as a writer and a researcher.
DeleteTo the tune of "What more can I say" by Jay-Z
ReplyDeleteThere’s never been a writer this good for this long
With blog posts so fresh, my words are so strong
With so many different genres, this one’s for this blog
The last one I write up, will show you all up
My classmates are fast to make up stuff, they crazy
They don’t take the time, they just out pace me
You know what? I take my time to write in my style,
If I write too fast my grade won’t make me smile
I’m not a writer, I’m a tutor for math and science
I’m good with research, but that times time to finish
Using databases, I take the time to do it
I’m that thorough, plus I know my tone may sound foolish
So those skills I learned, I bring them out when they count
When I’m writing a paper I don’t need to use my mouth
I’m talkin’ writing emails, lit reviews
Inquiry essays, what more can I tell you?
Let me spell it for you
R H, E T, O R
Nobody truer than Spence O’Keefe
And I’m back for more, DU’s ambassador
Prime Minister, Back to finish my revisions up
Chorus:
What more can I say?
What more can I write?
I did this research for you
My audience is true
In my rap, I attempted to convey the different skills that define me as both a writer and a researcher. I have applied my skills as a researcher to many different aspects of my writing. Particularly, taking time to learn the different aspects of a genre before begging to write and not rushing through my work. Hopefully you enjoyed my skills as a lyricist.
Why didn't you do this before, spencer? you totally fit a rapper's description. :)
DeleteNice! I am quite the fan of the original song so it was cool to see you put your own spin on it. I really like this whole song idea that people are going with, very creative! I thought your interpretation of you as a researcher was clear and presented well. Well done.
DeleteI made an obituary and i posted it in a new post.
ReplyDeleteGoes to the tune of "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons
ReplyDeleteI’m waking up to write my essay
I wipe my eyes and I get to typing.
I’m considering the audience.
I’m using appeals
Finding purpose
Then interpreting the sitch I have
This is it, my writing process
Woah
I pick a topic, I weigh my options
Enough to decide constraints
Welcome to the WRIT age, to the WRIT age,
Welcome to a rhetor, to a rhetor
Whoa, Whoa, I’m a writer, a writer (x2)
I research my topic, from all angles
It’s a necessity, I suppose
I synthesize to understand
Whoa
I’m finding studies,
exploring angles,
then checking out the perspectives
This is it, my research process
Whoa
I analyze data, I realize patterns,
Then incorporate in my essay
Welcome to the WRIT age, to the WRIT age,
Welcome to research, to research
Whoa, Whoa, I’m a researcher, a researcher
All systems go, I’m not even tired,
Write from my heart, straight from inside
I’m combining, Research and writing
Enough to make my essay dope
Welcome to the WRIT age, to the WRIT age
Welcome to a rhetor, to research
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, I’m a writer, a writer
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, I’m a researcher, a researcher
In this piece, I decided to present how I incorporate both my writing and researching techniques together in order to write a superb essay. I believe that writing is reliant on research, therefore both are imperative. I explain how I use exigence, constraints, and the constituents (or audience) throughout my writing process. I know some of the lyrics don't exactly fit, but hopefully you get the point!
one of my favorite songs! and I really liked your new version, It was easy to see who you are as a writer/researcher
DeleteMine had custom formatting, so I made it a post. See Lewis the Fox
ReplyDeleteI made a facebook page about me as a director of a documentary on the theory of writing. I thought this would emphasize that my theory of writing has to do heavily with that each piece of writing needs to have a strong voice. I believe people are opinionated and all writing has some sort of biases in varying degrees. I wrote a short bio and description of the documentary to show my theory of writing. I also mentioned the influential contributors which are all of the authors of the articles we have had to read this quarter that somehow led me to my theory of writing. You have to click "about" to see most of my work. Here's the link!

ReplyDeleteI created a collage for my response, so I created a new post titled "Ben Brentin Collage"
ReplyDeleteI am beginning my writing journey,
ReplyDeleteHopefully my lyrics begin to flow like Mat Kearney.
I try to brainstorm but nothing comes,
I am trying to see what my writing sums.
Frustrated and angry I give up hope,
I am certainly going nowhere, slowly becoming a mope.
Giving my writing time I soon find,
My writing is best when completely undefined.
Faster and faster I go,
Until my work looks like that of Vincent Van Gogh.
I see the light at the end of the tunnel,
But only after my ideas have passed through my mind's funnel.
The end is here,
But I know my writing will never disappear.
